Slippers Instructions
You will need:
¼ yard fabric
¼ yard felt
Foam sheets 2mm thick
Template Plastic sheet
Gripper fabric, I used Jiffy Grip. This is sold at any fabric shop. It is
used to put feet in children’s sleepers.
Tear away stabilizer
1 package of double fold, extra wide bias tape
Temtex
Glue
2 small pieces of Velcro
Please note that the pattern pieces are for adult sizes, for children you
will need to cut them down some.
Using the pattern pieces, cut 4 of pattern piece A & B from your
fabric, then cut 2 each from your felt. Place your felt then the fabric on
your hoop and embroider your design in the center of the A pieces. Be
sure that you turn them so that you will have one left and one right. Set
aside.
Now trace the out line of a foot onto the template plastic. (See pic 01
and 02) Use this to cut 2 (one right and one left) pieces of foam for
padding the soles, then 2 pieces of Temtex to hold the shape. ( see
pic 03)
Now you will use your template to cut the gripper for your bottom of
the soles. Measure and mark ½ inch wider than the template all the
way around then cut. (see pic 04) Glue your gripper to the temtex and
foam, folding the edges of the gripper over the top of the foam. (see
pic05). Place these under a heavy object until your glue dries.
Now using the template cut 2 pieces of fabric and 2 pieces of foam for
the upper part of the slipper.
To make the flaps for the upper parts for the slippers, layer your
fabric pieces B on top the bottom of the matching felt piece B and
stitch bias tape around the curved edges only, do not run it along the
flat edge. Repeat the same for piece A. I found this much easier using
a zigzag stitch. Now attach the piece B to the shoe pieces. (See pics
06 & 07). Now run the bias tape around the outside edges of the
upper slipper and stitch in place, then glue securely to the soles. (see
pic 09) Be sure you get a good bond on the very edges. Now just add
a small piece of Velcro between the flaps and you have matching
slippers for your caddy.
